Project Overview
Alighieri is growing and a new department was built – the Business Intelligence Office (BINO), focusing on turning complex data into actionable insights using reporting tools such as Microsoft Power BI. This office helps businesses make smarter decisions and perform at their best.
Our objective was to design a logo that reflects BINO’s activities and aligns with the existing offices: DYNO and TEO. We chose the owl to represent BINO, as the owl symbolises intelligence and wisdom—perfect traits for a team specialising in data visualisation and analysis.
Challenge
Designing a logo for BINO came with a few key challenges:
- Ensuring the owl’s design worked cohesively with the logos for DYNO (dinosaur) and TEO (elephant), despite the differences in body structure.
- Creating a design that captured BINO’s focus on intelligence, data, and precision, while staying true to Alighieri’s minimalist and modern branding.
- Reflecting BINO’s expertise in tools like Power BI without overcomplicating the design.
1. Design Process
Aligning with Alighieri’s Visual Identity
We started by analysing what tied DYNO and TEO’s logos together:
- Minimalist and modern design: Clear shapes that are practical and visually strong.
- Double slash reference (//): Represented in the angled positioning of the animals’ legs, connecting the logos to Alighieri’s core branding.
- Symmetry and simplicity: Ensuring the logos are impactful and recognisable, no matter the size.
These principles became the foundation for BINO’s logo, ensuring consistency with the other departments.
2. Designing the Owl
Creating the owl logo for BINO was all about keeping it simple yet meaningful. We started with fun ideas like glasses, but they felt too busy compared to DYNO and TEO’s clean designs. Instead, we focused on the owl’s key features—its sharp head and rounded body—to represent intelligence and focus.
The angled legs give a subtle nod to Alighieri’s double slash (//), connecting BINO to the other offices while giving it its own unique identity. The clean and simple design makes it easy to recognise and use anywhere, perfectly capturing BINO’s focus on turning data into clear insights with Power BI.

3. Selecting Colors
The color palette of purple and gray was chosen to reflect BINO’s mission:
- Purple: Symbolizes intelligence, creativity, and wisdom—qualities that align with BINO’s role in turning data into actionable insights. It also represents innovation, fitting for a team leveraging cutting-edge tools like Power BI.
- Gray: Adds balance, professionalism, and reliability, reinforcing the precision and trustworthiness associated with BINO’s work.
This palette complements DYNO’s vibrant blues and TEO’s calming greens, ensuring a cohesive look across all departments.

4. Finalizing the Design
We sketched the owl using geometric shapes, focusing on clean lines and symmetry. The final design emphasizes the owl’s sharp, observant nature while keeping the overall look minimalist and aligned with Alighieri’s aesthetic.
Final Results
- BINO Logo: A modern, minimalist owl design that represents wisdom, intelligence, and precision, perfectly reflecting the office’s focus on data and tools like Power BI.
- Aligned Branding: The logo fits seamlessly with DYNO and TEO, maintaining a consistent visual identity while giving BINO a unique personality.
Impact
The BINO logo has been praised for its simplicity and meaning. It captures the essence of a team dedicated to leveraging Power BI for data-driven decision-making, while staying true to Alighieri’s overall branding.
With this new logo, BINO is ready to represent its mission of transforming raw data into powerful insights that drive business success.
